Yosemite Sierra Multisport

Hike, Bike, Rock Climb, Raft or Horseback Ride in California's Yosemite National Park

Cascading rivers, magnificent waterfalls, granite monoliths, and stands of giant sequoia trees constitute the landscape of Yosemite National Park. Astounding natural beauty surrounds us as we hike along cascading waterfalls, mountain bike in the Sierra backcountry, learn to rock climb, whitewater raft down the tumbling Merced River or go horseback riding.

The following describes the June departure. The September departure has horseback riding and biking in Yosemite Valley on Day 3 as the water levels are too low for rafting.

Days 1-2 Sierra National Forest-Mariposa Grove. Bike through the rolling, oak-covered foothills and through the beautiful alpine landscape of the Sierra National Forest on quiet backroads. After lunch at Bass Lake, we shuttle to the southern boundary of Yosemite National Park and hike in Mariposa, the Park's largest of three groves of Giant Sequoias. The following day strap on a climbing harness for a day of introductory rock climbing on the lower granite walls of spectacular Fresno Dome.

Days 3-4 Merced River-Yosemite Valley. Today we raft the wild and scenic Merced River, following the old Yosemite Railroad bed, passing abandoned gold mines and water flumes as we thrill to this exceptional stretch of whitewater. We next learn the basics of rock climbing on the lower granite walls of the spectacular Yosemite Valley. For those who choose not to climb, explore the trails of the Valley by foot or bicycle.

Days 5-6 Tuolomne Meadows-Yosemite Falls. We venture into the Park's high country to Tuolumne Meadows and a hike to Lower and Upper Cathedral Lakes, among the most impressive of Yosemite's granite-wrapped High Sierra lakes. Our final hike provides a spectacular conclusion to our week as we pass through red fir and lodgepole forest to Yosemite Point with a commanding view of Yosemite Valley below. We then descend past Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls, zigzagging our way to the Valley. We conclude with a shuttle back to Fresno.
