| The
Appalachian Experience (ages 13-14): |
|
Join a group of twelve
participants and two leaders in an adventure that will introduce you to new
outdoor activities in a scenic wilderness environment. Each day your group will
travel to different campsites within the George Washington and Jefferson
National Forest while participating in exciting adventure activities along the
way. Each of our trips is unique and thus each offers different activities
depending on the length and route of the particular trip; It is this uniqueness
that allows the trip to focus on the experience rather than the specific
activities. By limiting the amount of times a group sets foot in a vehicle (on
average 1 time per trip) the group is able to achieve self-sufficiency which is
critical in the development of leadership, self-esteem, and effective team
interaction. |
 |
 |
Your trip begins by
learning the basic skills which provide a solid foundation upon which you build
experience. Depending on which specific activities your trip is doing you may
spend time on our climbing wall with a climbing instructor learning the
fundamentals of climbing, you may then head to a flat-water kayak clinic where
you will learn about white-water kayaks, river terminology & features, and
paddle strokes, and from there you may meet up with a mountain bike instructor
where you will learn the rules of the trail, as well as how to attach a
tow-behind trailer for all of your gear. |
|
After you and your
group have acquired the necessary skills your true journey will begin. From our
Base Camp you will travel by hike, canoe, bike, and sea kayak each day to a new
campsite along a pre-determined route. Along your journey you will have the
opportunity to experience several outdoor adventure activities such as rock
climbing, caving, and white-water kayaking as you develop your outdoor
leadership skills. As your trip nears its end you will make your way back to
our Base Camp where you will be rewarded with a ride down one of the world's
longest and fastest Zip Lines. As you ride down the zip line you will have the
opportunity to reflect on your past 7, 14, or 21 days and SMILE, because
not everyone can say that they did what you just did! |

| The
Wilderness Experience (ages 15-17): |
Experience a journey that will guide you through excitement,
challenge, and leadership in a beautiful wilderness setting. The Wilderness
Experience is much like The Appalachian Experience, but more for the older and
wiser. Designed not only for those who are just beginning to explore the
outdoors, but also for those of you who have been tromping through forests,
fields, and streams for years. While traveling through some of Virginia's most
scenic regions, you will be introduced to a number of exciting adventure
activities such as kayaking, climbing, and caving. Each of our trips is unique
and thus each trip offers different activities depending on the length and
route of the particular trip; It is this uniqueness that allows the trip to
focus on the experience rather than the specific activities. By limiting the
amount of times a group sets foot in a vehicle (on average 1 time per trip) the
group is able to achieve self-sufficiency which is critical in the development
of leadership, self-esteem, and effective team interaction. It's thrilling,
it's challenging, but most of all, it's fun.
|
Whether it is 7, 14, or
21 days you will see, learn, and do new things, things that many of your
friends will never be able to say they did. The first few days of each trip is
spent camping on our Base Camp where you will gain the knowledge upon which you
will develop your skills during the rest of your trip. Some time on our
climbing wall, find your way through our challenge course, wet-exit a kayak,
load your bike trailers and you are ready to go. |
 |
Throw you gear in your bike trailer, hop on, and pedal
your way through the Appalachian Mountains and valleys. As you pedal along your
route to the New River you will stop for a day of rock climbing, then back on
your bike where you will cruise down to the river. Swap your bikes for canoes
and the next few days will be spent relaxing in the sun as you float your way
to where the white-water begins. Once here you will want to hop in your
white-water kayak as you navigate the Class II-III rapids. After the relaxing
days on the river you may then head underground where you will have the
opportunity to explore what most people never get to see. As your trip nears an
end you will travel back to our Base Camp for your ride down our world-famous
zip line. What's left? Just the opportunity to reflect upon all that you
accomplished as well as what lies ahead!
