Besides great camp accommodations and fabulous food,
the river canyon itself provides visitors with its own special entertainment.
Birdwatchers will catch glimpses of a variety of avian species. Western
tanagers, evening grosbeaks, Lewis woodpeckers, Clark's nutcrackers and golden
eagles are but a few of the birds common to the canyon. And although most of
the deer and elk spend their summer months in the higher mountain meadows,
bighorn sheep are still regularly seen along the lower portions of the river,
and an occasional black bear is spotted foraging along the bank.
There's also several hotsprings to enjoy. Sheepeater,
Sunflower Flat, Hood Ranch, Whity Cox's and Hospital Bar all provide guests
with an opportunity to soak in hot, bubbling mineral waters. Each trip will
find us stopping at one or more of them either for camp, or for a brief
visit.
