Why Rafting Colorado
|

|
Just wanted to thank you for another great rafting
Colorado season. All of our guests return with many, many compliments...Thank
you for the many years of wonderful service." |
| THERE ARE MANY OUTFITTERS. WHY SHOULD WE CHOOSE 4 CORNERS RAFTING? |
The Colorado River Outfitters Association gives this advice in choosing the right rafting company:
1) If you want to go rafting in Colorado ask the company how long they have owned & operated their business. Find out which agencies issue their permits and call the agency and verify the information.
Four Corners was established in 1976 and has operated on these rivers longer than most. We are regulated by the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area on the Arkansas and the Bureau of Land Management on the Dolores River.
2) Before you go rafting in Colorado check out the company's guide training program. What is the experience level of the guides and owners? What type of safety, rescue and first aid training/certification do they have?
The State of Colorado requires that guides have a minimum of 50 hours of training in order to guide a commercial trip on the Arkansas. Four Corners by far exceeds those requirements with most of our new guides receiving in excess of 100 hours of training. The owners of Four Corners have been instrumental in developing many of the guidelines required by the state for guide training. Our guides have anywhere from 1 to 12 years of experience with the average being 4-5 years. All are certified in First Aid and CPR and have been trained in swiftwater rescue. The majority of our guides have additional medical training such as Wilderness Advanced First Aid, Wilderness First Responder and Outdoor Emergency Care Technician. Four Corners often hosts advanced first aid classes which we make available to all guides on the river.
3) What type of equipment does the outfitter use?
Four Corners uses ALL high quality self-bailing rafts of varying sizes. This enables us to use the best size raft for the group or water level. Experienced rafters can request smaller rafts to increase the excitement! We rent wetsuits, wetsuit boots, neoprene jackets, and are the only outfitter we know of to rent neoprene gloves! We carry hooded rain gear, extra warm garments, hypothermia kits, and first aid kits on all trips. Helmets are supplied for our advanced trips in the Numbers section.
4) Is the outfitter a member of CROA (Colorado River Outfitters Association)? Members must meet CROA guide experience and training qualifications which often exceed state licensing requirements on various rivers as well as adhere to a strict code of ethics.
The founders of Four Corners were instrumental in the establishment of the Colorado River Outfitters Association and the Arkansas River Outfitters Association. They helped to develop both association's code of ethics and have served on the board of both. Our safety precautions and training qualifications far exceed the state requirements.
5) What is included in the price?
Your lifejacket, transportation to the river and back on diesel buses, rain gear, helmets (when necessary), meals on full-days or longer, waterproof dry bag to store extra clothes.
6) Word of mouth is the best recommendation! Ask friends and neighbors about their rafting experiences.
