Colorado White Water Rafting on the Dolores
River
The
Dolores is an exquisite pristine wilderness river in southwestern Colorado near
Cortez. This river has an early spring run and is best early May through mid
June. The trip consists of two sections of the Dolores. The first begins at
Bradford ranch near Cahone (north of Cortez) and finishes at Slickrock,
approximately 48 miles down river. The water is class III-IV including
notorious Snaggletooth Rapid: the canyon walls are steep and tree covered with
wonderful camps among the Ponderosa pines and on grassy knolls. The second
section Slickrock Canyon from Slickrock to Bedrock is mostly class II-III with
beautiful sandstone cliffs, side canyons, sandy beaches, and a peacefulness
found on few western rivers.
