The Kings --Free Flowing Big Water!
The longed for conditions of heavy snow
pack and warm weather combine to create some of the biggest white water in
California, not unlike some of the hydraulic (waves, holes, and currents) runs
of the Grand Canyon. A big water river without the technical difficulty of
the Merced or Tuolumne, the Kings is suitable for both the first time
rafter and the experienced paddler. The river bed is wide and not very
obstructed, so even at high flows the Kings is not particularly hazardous.
Class III (beginning whitewater) rapids roll through the canyon in
exciting wave trains (a series of waves), creating a wilderness roller coaster
ride of gigantic proportions! The exciting ten mile run rushes through
Banzai, Fang Tooth and Sidewinder rapids on the way to our
take-out at our base camp.
Two-Day Trips 20 miles; 2 nights camping, 5 meals
Camping the
evening before is included in your two day trip. Set up your campsite and
enjoy the evening with a picnic dinner and stargazing at our riverside base
camp.
Breakfast is at 8:00
before we start out on a day of rafting the exciting Kings. After lunch on the
riverbank we return to camp for relaxation, maybe a game of volleyball, and
making new friends while our guides prepare a barbecue dinner and campfire. The
second morning after breakfast, we head off again for the Kings put-in, rafting
the same section of river, but somehow it always seems more exciting as we know
what to expect and can challenge ourselves in different ways while noticing
different features of the beautiful canyon environment. We return to camp in
mid-afternoon full of stories and memories of a wonderful two-day river
trip!
One-Day Trips 10 miles; 1 night camping, 2 meals
Join us the evening before your trip at the riverside base camp on the
Kings. Picnic tables and BBQ's are plentiful along the sandy river bank; pick
your campsite and cook your own dinner that evening while enjoying the river
setting.
We begin our one day trip
with breakfast at 8:00 am. Then we head up to the top of the river canyon and
raft 10 miles of the big water Kings, stopping for a hearty lunch along
the way. We finish the day's run and return to our base camp and your car in
the late afternoon, in time for you to head home or on to another destination
with fond memories of a great day on the river!
Our Riverside Base Camp MARIAH WILDERNESS EXPEDITION'S Kings River trips are
run in conjunction with our affiliate outfitter, Zephyr Whitewater Expeditions.
The beautiful 5 acre riverside base camp, two hours east of Fresno above
Pine Flat Reservoir, has sandy beaches for campsites, picnic tables and BBQ's
for preparing your own dinner the evening before your trip, and a volleyball
court for off-river play. Park your car in the parking area above camp for easy
access.
