California & American River Whitewater Rafting Guide Schools - 2012

COST: $595 for 6 day California Rafting School on the American River

LOCATION: The California whitewater rafting guide school will take place primarily on the South Fork of the American River, which offers an exceptional California rafting learning experience with 21 miles of class 3 whitewater to navigate. The last few days may be spent on the more technical Truckee River. The class will also have the option to spend 1-2 days after the raft guide school on the exciting class 4 North Fork Yuba River and/or North Fork American River (depending on water levels).

California & American River Whitewater Rafting Guide School:

Emphasis is placed on river hydrology, river navigation, reading whitewater, raft equipment rigging, equipment maintenance and repair, personal rescue equipment & signals, commercial safety put-in talks, camp/kitchen operations, knot tying and the finer points of creating safe, enjoyable whitewater rafting in California. Also included in the cost are transportation, PFD, helmets and other on river equipment: camping & river use fees, all meals (special diets accommodated) and a fun healthy atmosphere for a genuine learning experience.

This California Whitewater Rafting Guide School is primarily oriented toward college students and others interested in summer employment as California whitewater rafting paddle guides on Class 2-3 rivers. The minimum age for summer employment is 18 years; however 16 years old is the minimum age for guide school attendance. Participants should be safety conscious, team oriented, hard working, responsible, personable, fit, hardy, ready for challenge and concerned for the environment. The majority of the California white water rafting instruction will be in paddleboat's, but students may also have the opportunity to experience oar boats and handling skills. Upon completion of this reputable California rafting school, students should be prepared to apply for summer jobs with Tributary Whitewater Tours or any other river rafting outfitter, though completion of the school does not guarantee employment.

In order to maximize on-river time during the California whitewater rafting school, certification in First-Aid and CPR are not included, but they are mandatory requirements for commercial California river rafting guides. Participants are highly recommended to obtain their certifications prior to the California whitewater rafting school, though not a requirement to participate.

A deposit of 50% is required to reserve your space. Some reduced price scholarship plans may be available. Full payment is due prior to the school. Upon receipt of a deposit, Tributary Whitewater Tours will send the participant an informational application which will assist instructors in customizing the school to fit everybody's needs. Other detailed information including what to bring, map for meeting etc. will be included.
